A Safari in Kenya from Afar

If you’ve been to Kenya before, this 7-day remote safari is just what you need. Safaris take place in private conservancies, so you can choose to do other safari activities as well. For example, you can watch animals while riding a horse, or for those who like to be daring, you can go on a camel safari.

Lewa has beautiful views of Mount Kenya’s snow-capped peak and a wide range of habitats, including pristine forests, fertile fields, natural springs, and acacia woodlands. It is a haven for the 70 species of mammals that have been recorded here.

Then go to the Matthews Range, which is covered in tropical woods and home to shy animals, beautiful butterflies, and many kinds of birds. A local Samburu guide will show you the best places to hike in the forest and tell you about its secrets.

Your tour in remote Kenya starts with a flight to the Lewa Conservancy in the morning. You can spend your days here discovering this varied and wildlife-rich part of Kenya.

If you want to see cheetahs, Grevy’s zebras, and rhinos, this is one of the best places in Kenya to do it. When you go on game drives with guides from the area, you might see leopards lying down or lions sitting on top of buffalos.

There are new things to see and do in the African bush on every game drive. You can also go on a camel safari or a horseback tour, depending on how good of a rider you are.

You can have breakfast on a picnic blanket on top of a hill with a view of the fields and springs below. At the end of the day, enjoy a cool sundowner while watching the sun go down over the fields. Then, head back to camp for a delicious dinner.

Day 4: Lewa to the Matthews Range

On day 4 of your remote Kenya safari trip, after breakfast, take a scenic drive from Lewa to the Matthews Mountains. As you drive up the range, you’ll see traditional Samburu villages with kids dressed in Samburu clothes waving and smiling.

The Samburu fighters, called Moran’s, are dressed up in their finest clothes, complete with spears and daggers. The women are wearing colorful necklaces made of beads.

As you go higher and farther away from people, the road turns into a 4×4 track. After a long, winding path, you can finally see the camp in this beautiful, out-of-the-way place.

You will get there in time for a delicious lunch that was just made. Following tea and cakes in the afternoon, you can go on a guided walk into the forest with a Samburu guide. Take in the quiet and peace of the area. Feel all your stress melt away as you listen to the sounds of the bush.

Day 5 – 6: Elephant Paths and Samburu

During your trip to Kenya, take it easy for a few days and explore this beautiful area. Follow the old tracks that elephants have used to get through the forest. Pay attention as the elephants talk to each other through the trees. Keep an eye on the bushbuck as they walk down to the stream in front of the camp.

You can wake up to the sound of many birds singing in this area. After a walk through the dappled-light forest, you can swim in the icy, clear ponds. Take a hike up the mountain, passing through the old cycads that are only found in this area. In the evenings, people gather around the campfire to listen to the scops owl’s call, drink something before dinner, and talk about what they did that day.

They also have a way of making a fire without matches or a lighter. Test how well you can throw a Samburu stick. Visit the nearby town and learn more about this interesting culture. It’s like going back in time and being in a paradise at this camp where you can only walk.

Day 7: Matthews Range to Nairobi
