This 13 Day Highlights of Kenya and Tanzania Deluxe Safari lets you experience an East African safari vacation. Come see the splendor of Africa. Beginning on Laikipia Plateau, your safari runs between Mount Kenya and the northern Kenyan deserts. A great place to wander free of crowds.

Then on to see the Masai Mara and appreciate being in the center of one of the most game rich regions in Africa; here there is always a variety of resident species in a backdrop of breathtaking landscape. From here, go to the Serengeti, where grasslands teem with big herds of plains animals being pursued by lions and cheetahs. Search for leopard amid the riverine forest’s branches, basking in the dappled sunlight.

Then at last to Lake Victoria, one of Africa’s major lakes. Stay on a private island; home for the secretive sitatunga antelope and a haven for endangered chimps.

Day 1: Laikipia Plateau – Kenya

Leave the busy metropolis behind and fly to the highland plateau of Laikipia on the first morning of your East African safari.Sustained by the Ewaso Ng’iro River, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy supports a range of animals; on a late afternoon game drive, keep an eye out for the long necked Gerenuk and Beisa Oryx. Rest comfortably in your opulent Kenya safari lodging.

Day 2: Rhinos and Other Endangered Animals

Get up early to see the new day break, go on a wildlife drive and search for some of the 100 black rhino in the twisted acacia bush, or the uncommon Grevy’s zebra on the scrubby grassy plains. Here as well may be the large five. Importantly, the wild animals live and graze alongside the world’s largest herd of Boran cattle, pioneering a mutually beneficial land management system, providing you a distinct and varied safari experience.

Day 3: Bush Walks and Night Drives

On an early morning guided bush walk, approach the bush and its fauna closely. Discover the birds, environment, insects and read the wildlife trails to spot the various spoor.

Visit their enclosure and talk to their caretakers about the attempts to save the last of this very endangered species, so seeing the last of the Northern White rhino in the world. Alternatively, you may go on an optional trip to spend time with the conservancy experts studying and monitoring the lions living there.

Go on a night drive as the sun sets; the guide will use a strong spotlight to monitor the nocturnal animals, allowing you to experience the enchantment of Kenya’s nightlife in the bush.

Day 4: Masai Mara National Reserve – Kenya

After breakfast today, you will take your last game drive on Laikipia heading to the airfield and then fly to the Masai Mara. Your guide will greet you and transport you to your luxury camp set above the Talek River, a perfect location for the major migration river crossings, upon arrival. The camp’s panoramic views across the plains help to support great densities and variety of African animals. For year-round game viewing, the famous Masai Mara is excellent.

Day 6: Meet Some Maasai in the Mara

Discover the Masai Mara with Il Dorobo and Maasai guides in skilled company. For some exceptional game viewing, the wildlife and bird watching game drives can be customized to certain needs and interests. You may visit a close-by Maasai hamlet and discuss the cultural side of the traditional Maasai’s way of life as an optional trip.

Day 5: Adventure in the Mara

You may choose to begin your East African safari day with a fantastic early morning hot air balloon trip over the savannah. Alternatively, go on an early morning horseback ride to witness the plentiful animals that make the Mara home. Later, go for an afternoon drive to appreciate the variety of landscape and animals the Masai Mara provides.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park – Tanzania

Get up early, take a dawn game drive, then return to camp for breakfast. After breakfast, make your way to the airstrip to catch a chartered flight to the Kenyan-Tanzanian border. From here, a brief picturesque drive over the border into Tanzania will take you to board an onward flight into the Serengeti. A guide will pick you up and transport you to your new camp in time for a late lunch. After that, you can begin discovering the Serengeti and embark on a wildlife drive.

Day 8: Travel the Plains

The game drives will take you deeper into the Serengeti today. The Serengeti is thought to be home to the greatest Lion population in Africa because of the availability of plains game, and you are probably going to witness several of these giant cats as well as other predators.

Day 9: Exploration and Exhilaration

Morning optional extra chance to take to the air and do your game viewing with a bird’s eye view of the dramas playing out down below during an early morning hot air balloon safari or experience the excitement of walking among the wildlife during a morning bush walk.

Otherwise, plan morning and afternoon game drives to discover the area. Your Serengeti camp has everything in plenty whether you seek peaceful reflection and relaxation or action and thrill.

Day 10: Rubondo Island National Park/ Lake Victoria

This morning marks the end of the Serengeti grasslands and the start of the beach wilderness on Lake Victoria. Where elephants wander and butterflies dance across the native rainforest, this is a really wild location. A brief flight brings you to Rubondo Island, the largest island National Park in the world.

At the airfield, a guide will meet you and take you to your new tent on Lake Victoria’s lake coast. Here you will have lots of time to investigate the lake and forest during the following three nights. Surrounded by beaches and rocky coves, this forested island is among the most unspoiled nature in Africa.

Day 11 & 12: Chimpanzees, Forests and Water

Over the next two whole days, you may investigate this unspoiled nature. For the active and adventurous your days can be spent on guided forest treks and a guided chimpanzee excursion through the chimp ecosystem. Though the chimps are being accustomed to human presence, this is now a work in progress.

Alternatively, you might drive past the ancient gigantic trees seeming to dwarf the giraffes, elephants, and bushbuck living in the forest on game drives. Close to the lakeside, you may embark on a swamp trip looking for the shy and elusive sitatunga antelope which hides in the papyrus swamp with the crocodiles and hippos. A boating safari or kayak lets you also investigate the region on the water.

There are also world-class boat based fishing chances as an optional extra.

Day 13: Arusha

Before a brief ride to the airfield, have a wonderful breakfast outside on the terrace facing the lake on the last day of your East Africa Safari. You will get aboard a flight to Arusha Airport for your further travel plans.
