You will stay at a small eco-safari camp in Kenya’s Chyulu Hills that gets all of its power from the sun and doesn’t release any carbon into the air. At Campi Ya Kanzi, each of the luxury tents suites has a Maasai servant who takes care of it only. Maasai guards walk around the camp at night to make sure you are safe.
The people who run this eco-safari camp in Kenya are Luca Belpietro and Antonella Bonomi. In Chyulu Hills, Kenya, people from nearby Maasai towns help them cook, clean, and take care of their fancy safari camp. All of them work hard to make sure that your Kenya safari at Campi ya Kanzi is the best holiday you’ve ever had.
On the porch, you can drink coffee or tea and look at Mount Kilimanjaro. Then, you can go for a morning walk or game drive. Come back to Campi Ya Kanzi for a tasty breakfast after your trek. As soon as you finish breakfast, you can go on a Maasai-led walking tour or just chill out at the camp. For lunch, a big picnic with fresh garden veggies will be set up for you, or you can eat at Tembo House and then take a nap in the afternoon.
When people stay at other safari camps, they are often stuck on a rigid, set safari routine. Not at this high-end eco-safari camp. Guests love that they can work directly with their professional guide to plan the activities and safari for each day.
Place to stay
In Kiswahili, Campi ya Kanzi translates to “Camp of the Hidden Treasures.” For you, it means “trekking in style.” This high-end eco-safari camp in Kenya is on a 400-square-mile private ranch in the south of the country, with a view of Mount Kilimanjaro.
This land is one of the last untouched parts of Africa because it is owned by the Maasai. The land connects three national parks and is home to a lot of wildlife.
“Elephant” House, or Tembo, is the center of the camp. The top of the clubhouse is made of thatch, and it is beautifully built from local materials like lava rocks and native woods. This building is open to the outside, and the deck has a great view of Mount Kilimanjaro. The living room at Tembo House is big, and you can read books about Africa or just chill out with a drink after a tour.
You will also eat at Tembo House. It will be great to eat dinner at your high-class safari lodge in Kenya with candles, crystal drinks, and nicely set tables. The cooks have been trained to make delicious Italian food like fresh pasta, risotto, cookies, bread, and ice cream. They also make meals from other countries and from the area. At the luxury eco safari lodge in Kenya, the organic vegetable garden provides fresh veggies every day. The organic dairy provides fresh milk, and the chickens provide fresh eggs. Vinyards in Italy owned by Antonella’s family grow the wines.
There are 6 luxury tented cottages and 2 luxury tented rooms for guests to stay in at Campi Ya Kanzi. One of them is called “The Hemingway Suite” after the famous author whose book “Green Hills of Africa” was set in the nearby Chyulu Hills. The Hemingway Suite and the Simba Suite both have the best views of the animal-filled pool.
The rooms have either two twin beds or one king-size bed made at the camp from local logs and linens that were carefully made in Italy. The inside is decorated with a table, two safari chairs, a colonial trunk, shelves and hangers for your clothes, and fresh flowers every day.
In Kenya, Luca Belpietro’s high-end game camp will be your home away from home and professional guide. He was born in Italy and went on many trips with his father in Africa. Antonella Bonomi, Luca’s wife, will be your guide at this high-end safari camp in Kenya. Campi ya Kanzi is where Luca and Antonella live with their three kids.

The place
In the southern part of Kenya, Campi ya Kanzi is part of Kuku Group Ranch. The ranch is 400 square miles of land that is owned by Maasai herders.
In Kenya, the land goes from the Chyulu Hills to the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, which is the tallest mountain in Africa at 19,342 feet. The ranch is between 3,000 and 6,900 feet above sea level, so the land has a lot of different types of landscapes.
Grasslands in the savanna, green river woods, and cool mountain forests are all places where they can live. Lava flowed out of the Kuku Group Ranch in Kenya and made the Chyulu Hills less than 500 years ago. There is a lot of different life in them, which makes them famous. The ranch has pools, streams, two rivers, and a lake, all of which are good for wildlife.
Solar power gives off 220 volts of energy, and solar heaters heat the water. A special charcoal made by the United Nations Environment Project is used to cook food in the kitchen. Composting food scraps lets you use the soil in your veggie garden.
Water is the most valuable resource. When gray water is no longer needed, it is cleaned by lava filters and then used in the yard or put in a pond for wildlife.
Kenya Ecotourism and the Maasai Campi ya Kanzi are living examples of the Kenya Wildlife Service’s new rules that urge people in the area to help protect wildlife. Conservation in this way is based on the Maasai’s self-interested participation rather than making rules and laws.
Things to do
Campi Ya Kanzi in Chyulu Hills National Park is a great place to go on an exciting tour in Kenya to see wildlife. Every day of your stay, you’ll find something new! Take it easy, unwind, and go exploring!
A Kenya wildlife tour led by Maasai people can be found at Campi ya Kanzi. Feel the thrill of chasing animals on foot like a real Maasai! The camp is in the Chyulu Hills, which is Kenya’s best game viewing area and is halfway between Amboseli and Tsavo parks. It offers high-end tented accommodation for your private Kenya wildlife tour in the Masai Mara.
A Safari
Any of the six Land Rover Defenders will take you on game drives in Kenya. Your professional guide with a gun and Maasai game hunters will always be with you to keep you safe in the bush. As you walk through Kenya with your Maasai guides, you’ll see many kinds of animals and birds in their natural habitat.
Because this is where your Maasai tracker comes from, he will be able to show you local medicinal plants, talk about animal tracks and behavior, and tell you stories about Maasai culture and traditions during your Kenya wildlife tour at Campi Ya Kanzi.
Wildlife
The ranch is very big and has many different types of natural environments, so it is home to a huge variety of animal and bird species. Because of this, it is a very important place for Kenya to protect wildlife. This also makes sure that people have an exciting Kenya wildlife safari!
There are lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, and other common grasslands animals on the ranch. But there are also many rare species that do very well there, like the African wild dog, the Lesser Kudu, and the Cheetah. Because conservation efforts have been so successful, Black Rhinos have now moved in on the land!
The ranch is home to more than 50 types of animals and almost 400 types of birds. The most recent game count showed that there were a lot of animals in the area: 312 Giraffes, 289 Buffalo, 115 Elephants, 37 Lions, and 16 Leopards. A huge number of Gnus, Zebra, Waterbuck, Baboons, Hartebeest, Impala, and Grant’s and Thompson’s Gazelles can also be found.
A walk through the soft hills near the camp will give you a chance to see the beautiful mountain reedbuck. During your Kenya wildlife tour, you might see the shy Lesser Kudu or the Rare Gerenuk while you walk along the banks of a river.
You’ll also find that early evening is a great time for a Kenya wildlife tour near the end of the day. An easy walk up one of the beautiful volcanic hills near the camp can be done at dusk. This gives you a beautiful view of the golden fields below where animals are grazing.
After a long day outside, coming back to Campi Ya Kanzi and having a drink next to the campfire is very appealing. The sounds of the African night are magical, and a five-course dinner with candles makes for a peaceful end to a busy day.
